Additionally, the programme aims to provide insights into the decision-making process within Japanese companies, and help better understand of their negotiation style and hierarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">Finally, the programme intends to strengthen existing relationships with Japanese customers and establish new contacts with potential ones, thereby expanding the business&#8217;s reach and impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">PROGRAMME CONTENT<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The programme consists of two phases.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">Exclusive 2-phase Training Programme for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u2192The first phase is an online programme\u00a0<strong>from 18 to 22 May 2026<\/strong>. During this phase, participants will engage in virtual case studies and cross-cultural lectures, gaining insights into the Japanese business environment and management practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u2192The second phase is an on-site programme in Tokyo\u00a0<strong>from 8 to 12 June<\/strong><\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u00a0202<\/span><\/strong><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">6<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">During this phase, SME participants will have the opportunity to attend interactive seminars and workshops and schedule individual company meetings (ICMs) with Japanese companies of interest. The EU-Japan Centre&#8217;s team and interpreters will support these ICMs, allowing SMEs to explore pre-established or new opportunities for growth and collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The number of participants for this programme is limited to 14.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">PARTICIPANT PROFILE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">Companies: this programme is open to Managers or Executives working for an SME<\/span><sup><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">(*)<\/span><\/sup><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u00a0based in the European Union, or in a country associated with the Single Market Programme, SME Pillar<\/span><sup><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">(**)<\/span><\/sup><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">; the headquarters of the company must be located in an EU\/SMP country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">(*)<\/span><\/em><\/strong><em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u00a0Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are companies that meet the\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\"><a href=\"https:\/\/single-market-economy.ec.europa.eu\/smes\/sme-definition_en?prefLang=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>standard criteria<\/em><\/a><\/span><em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u00a0set by the European Commission to be classified as SMEs.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">(**)<\/span><\/em><\/strong><em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">\u00a0Please check the status of your country\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/docs\/2021-2027\/smp\/guidance\/list-3rd-country-participation_smp_en.pdf\"><strong><em>here<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong><em><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">ELIGIBILITY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<table class=\"Table\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The applicant must:\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">be a Manager or Executive working for an SME based in the European Union, or in a country associated with the Single Market Programme, SME Pillar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">the headquarters of the company must be located in an EU\/SMP country.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">be supported by their employer through a signed letter (in case they do not belong to senior management).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">be able to participate in the entire programme; a representation by a non-selected candidate is not permitted.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">have a good command of English (recommended level B2 or higher)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">While the type of business plays a minor role, candidates from the consulting sector may receive lower priority during the selection process.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">Companies are allowed to participate multiple times. However, applicants will be declined if they have previously participated in the \u201cGet Ready For Japan\u201d programme, cancelled their participation or were absent during any part of a previous training programme\/mission without a valid reason. Additionally, applicants may be declined for any actions that contravene the training programme&#8217;s guidelines, local laws, customs, and regulations, or for failing to follow the instructions of Centre staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">SELECTION<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<table class=\"Table\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The Centre will evaluate applicants based on the following selection criteria:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The company&#8217;s strategy towards Japan\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The applicant\u2019s professional background and position within the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The applicant\u2019s motivation\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">COSTS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The EU-Japan Centre will cover all expenses related to training, including speakers&#8217; fees, room rental, transportation for group activities, and interpreters. All participants are responsible for covering their travel and living expenses in Japan, including accommodation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">DEPOSIT &amp; PENALITIES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">Selected participants in the training programme must pay \u20ac 1,000 to secure their spot.\u00a0This payment will be refunded after the programme is completed. Failure to secure or confirm their place by the attributed deadline will result in the cancellation of the application.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">The following penalties apply:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">If a participant cancels after paying the deposit, the deposit will be forfeited.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">However, the deposit will be refunded in cases of force majeure, such as natural disasters or other unforeseeable circumstances beyond the participant&#8217;s control. If the circumstances are unclear, a deposit refund will require explicit approval from the EU Managing Director.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-BE\" xml:lang=\"en-BE\">If a participant fails to attend the training programme (which includes seminars, workshops, or company visits), a deduction of \u20ac100 will be applied for each day of absence without a valid reason.
